The Berkeley College Knights opened their season with a bang by winning the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference preseason men's basketball tournament over the weekend.
The Knights opened their season with a commanding 81 to 45 win over Vaughn College in the first round of the tournament, led by freshmen guard Jonathan Dorismond's 22 points.
The Knights then faced Pratt Institute in the championship game on Sunday and defeated the Cannoneers by a score of 71 to 59 to win the tournament despite trailing at halftime by a score of 30 to 28. The Knights defeated the Cannoneers using a balanced attack with four players in double figures, led by senior forward Willie Bowman III's 16 points.
Bowman was named most valuable player of the tournament. Sophomore guard Jamal Boatswain and senior guards Jonathan Pena and James Dorismond were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Knights travel to Mount Saint Mary's College in Newburgh, NY, for a tournament this weekend. The Knights will face Mount Saint Mary's in the first game at 3 P.M. on Saturday, November 15.
