WOMEN FALL IN FINAL

The Berkeley College women's basketball team fell six points short of winning their first United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championship on Saturday, falling to conference rival Albany College of Pharmacy 60 to 54.

The Knights were led by All-American forward Milan Germany with 14 points and 15 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by honorable mention All-American guard Aiyesha Brown with 14 points and guard Janay Thomas with 10 points. Forward Rachel Thomas contributed 9 points on 4 for 5 shooting.

Both Milan Germany and Aiyesha Brown were named to the All-Tournament team.

The team ends their third season 14-10.

WOMEN TO COMPETE FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Berkeley College New York women's basketball team earned a spot in the USCAA National Championship game with an inspiring 76-66 win over Penn State Fayette.

The Knights led almost the entire game behind Milan Germany's 23 points and 10 rebounds, Aiyesha Brown's 20 points, and Janay Thomas' 19 points and 5 assists.

The Knights face a familiar foe in Albany Pharmacy in the championship game at 6 P.M. Saturday.

MEN AND WOMEN ADVANCE TO FINAL FOUR

The Berkeley College New York men's and women's basketball teams advanced to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Final Four today.

The men began the day by defeating Penn State York by a score of 92-72. The Knights were led by forward Danzel Whyte who grabbed a game high 11 rebounds, 6 offensive and dropped in 16 points on 6 for 10 shooting. He was joined in double figures by forward Jose Stable with 21 points and 10 rebounds and guard Kaseem Williams with 21 points and 9 assists.

Following the men's game, the women advanced with a 68-63 win over Penn State Brandywine. The Knights were led by guard Aiyesha Brown who led all scorers with 23 points and hit 4 for 9 from three-point range. She was joined in double figures by forward Milan Germany with 14 points and 15 rebounds, guard Janay Thomas with 13 points, and guard Olivia Byfield with 10 points.

The men return to action tomorrow at 3 P.M. and the women at 7 P.M.

MEN AND WOMEN VIE FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The New York men's and women's basketball teams will begin their quest for their first national championship on Thursday at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Basketball Championships.

The#3 seeded men tip off at Noon against #6 seeded Penn State York on Thursday and the #5 seeded women tip off at 4 P.M. against the #4 seeded Penn State Brandywine.

ALL-AMERICANS ANNOUNCED

Nine Berkeley College athletes were honored by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association at the National Basketball Championships banquet for their academics and performance.

Gary Williams, Jr., Jovan Bovell, and Aiyesha Brown were all named Honorable Mention All-Americans.

Isaac Robinson and Kaseem Williams were named Second Team All-Americans.

Milan Germany and Jose Stable were named First Team All-Americans.

Alexander Loniakan and Janay Thomas were named Academic All-Americans.

WOMEN FALL TO ST. JOE'S

The Berkeley College New York women's basketball team fell to St. Joseph's College 56-42 in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference semifinals despite a spirited 20-9 run to open the second half to take a 34-32 lead with just under 13 minutes left in the game.

The Knights were led by junior forward Milan Germany with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. She was joined in double figures by sophomore guard Janay Thomas with 11 points. The Knights were outrebounded 54-34 by the Bears and shot only 22% for the game yet still managed to keep it close throughout the second half.

The loss drops the Knights to 12-9 on the season as they prepare to travel to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Basketball Tournament starting February 27 at Penn State Fayette.

MEN AND WOMEN RECEIVE BID TO NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

The Berkeley College New York men's and women's basketball teams received bids to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Basketball Championship Tournament today.

This marks the third consecutive season the men's team has been selected to participate in the national championship and the second consecutive season for the women. The men lost in the championship game last season to Andrews University.

Seedings for the tournament will be announced on Wednesday.

CONFERENCE PLAYOFFS SET

The New York women's basketball team will play St. Joseph's College on Saturday, February 16, at 8 P.M. at The College of New Rochelle in the semifinals of the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference.

The New York men's basketball team will play Vaughn College on Saturday, February 16, at 2 P.M. at The College of New Rochelle in the semifinals of the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference.

WOMEN WIN, REACH SEMIFINALS

The New York women's basketball team cruised to a 76-19 win over Vaughn College in the first round of the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference playoffs and will play St. Joseph's College Saturday night in the semifinals.

The Knights were led by senior guard Rachel Thomas, who led all scorers with 21 points while adding 12 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Aiyesha Brown with 17, Janay Thomas with 16, and Tierra Williams with 16 points. Junior forward Milan Germany dished out 11 assists for the Knights.

The win improves the team's record to 12-8 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

WOMEN DEFEAT ALBANY FOR 1ST TIME

The Berkeley College New York women's basketball team defeated Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for the first time in their brief history by a score of 59-56 to improve to 11-8 overall and 4-1 in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference.

The Knights started the game poised as both teams were exchanging baskets for the first five minutes of play. Berkeley College then went on a mini 6-0 run to take a 14-7 lead, sparked by an Olivia Byfield and-one off an offensive rebound. The Panthers would come back to within one point, 16-15, on a free throw by Alexa Schooley, however, the Knights quickly turned in an 8-0 run to go up, 24-15, with 3:34 remaining in the first half. The Knights would extend to an 11 point lead twice before going into the locker up, 31-20. Milan Germany led the Knights with 10 points, while Schooley led the Panthers with 10 points as well.

The Knights would extend their lead to 14 points in the opening three minutes of the second half but the Panthers were not fazed as they used that as motivation to make a strong comeback, using a 6-0 run to get them under ten points. Then, with 13 minutes remaining in the game both teams traded baskets as Berkeley maintained their lead for a while, until Kelsey Johnson drained a lay-up that tied the game at 52-52 with four minutes remaining in the game. Germany scored on the Knights next possession to re-take the lead, 54-52. After a few missed shots by both teams, the Panther’s Schooley tied the game at 54-54 with 2:21 remaining.

Turnovers would haunt both teams in the next couple of possessions and with just over one minute to play; Aiyesha Brown hit a three pointer that put the Knights up, 57-54. About a minute later, Germany came up with a steal that led to a Rachel Thomas fast-break lay-up, which would ice the game for the Knights.

Berkeley College was led by Germany’s 17 points and eight steals. Tierra Williams grabbed nine boards and couple of key baskets, while Brown chipped in with 14 points and six rebounds.

WOMEN DEFEAT MOUNT SAINT VINCENT

The Berkeley College women's basketball team defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent 56-44 to improve to 10-8 on the season and continue to make a case for a second consecutive appearance in the USCAA National Tournament.

Mount Saint Vincent pulled in front 9-5 in the first five minutes and then would match their largest lead of the period on a basket at the 12:18 mark before going nearly 10 minutes before scoring again.

The Knights took advantage with an 8-0 run capped by a Milan Germany bucket. The team's would trade free-throws over the final 1:02 of the opening stanza and went to the intermission tied at 19-19. Berkeley was held to 17.6-percent shooting in the half but scored 10 of its 19 points off of 17 Mount Saint Vincent turnovers. The Knights also hauled in 12 offensive rebounds before the break and scored 12 second chance points.

The Dolphins opened the second stanza with 12 of the first 18 points scored to take their largest lead of the night, 31-25, with 16:28 left in regulation. An Aiyesha Brown three-pointer at the 13:52 mark started a 15-4 run for the Knights that saw them pull in front 40-35 at the midway point of the second period. The Dolphins would bounce back to tie it at 44-44 but would not score again with 6:15 remaining in the game.

Brown led the way for Berkeley with a game-high 25 points after shooting 8-for-23 overall and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Germany added 13 points and team-highs in rebounds with 11 and blocks with two, while Rachel Thomas chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.

Berkeley returns to action on Sunday against conference rival Albany Pharmacy at 2 P.M. at Hostos Community College.

WOMEN DEFEAT YESHIVA

The women's basketball team defeated Yeshiva University Monday night by a score of 72-55 to improve to 9-8 on the season and 3-1 in the Hudson Valley Conference, thereby assuring themselves of at least the #3 seed in the upcoming playoffs.

The Knights put four players in double figures with two players managing double-doubles. Aiyesha Brown led all scorers with 22 points while adding 12 rebounds. Rachel Thomas added 21 points, Tierra Williams 16, and Milan Germany 11 points with 14 rebounds. Janay Thomas added 9 assists.

The Knights return to action Wednesday night against Mount Saint Vincent at 5:30 P.M.

WOMEN POST STIRRING WIN OVER NHTI

The New York women's basketball team got off to a stupendous start against NHTI Saturday at the Berkeley College Invitational, leading 28-14 at the half, before NHTI made a late run that saw them get within two and have the opportunity to tie or win it at the buzzer. The Knights walked away with the win 58-56 to improve to 8-7 on the season.

Junior forward led the Knights with 22 points and 13 rebounds, though overall the Knights managed to shoot only 27.8% from the field for the game. Sophomore guard Janay Thomas added 11 points and 6 rebounds and senior forward Rachel Thomas contributed 10 points and 6 boards for the Knights.

Berkeley will face Briarcliffe College in the championship game at Noon.

BERKELEY INVITATIONAL THIS WEEKEND

This weekend Berkeley College will host its annual Berkeley College Invitational Basketball Tournament, featuring nationally ranked men’s and women’s teams from the NYC metropolitan area and the Berkeley men's and women's teams from the Woodland Park and New York City campuses. All games will be played at Hostos Community College in the Bronx, New York.

Berkeley College NJ (Men): Enjoying its most successful season in team history, the New Jersey squad (10-10) are currently ranked #12 in the USCAA-2 and making a strong push for qualification to the National Tournament. The Knights are led by freshman forward Isaac Robinson (Conwell Egan Catholic/Trenton, NJ) with a 19.2 scoring average and 8.7 rebounds per game, including a career-high 46 points last Monday night against Vaughn College. Senior guard Gary Williams (Marist/Jersey City, NJ) is second on the team with a 11.6 scoring clip.

Berkeley College NY (Women): The fourth-ranked Knights (7-7) are seeking to break a recent three-game slide against fifth-ranked NHTI whom they defeated earlier this season 65-54 in Concord, NH to win the NHTI Holiday Inn New Year’s Invitational. The Knights are led by junior guard Milan Germany (Notre Dame Prep/Bronx, NY) at 19.5 points per game and senior guard Aiyesha Brown (John Adams/Jamaica, NY) who drops 13.4 points per game.

Berkeley College NY (Men): The seventh-ranked Knights (10-6) bring a four game winning streak into the tournament and face the #1 ranked NHTI Lynx (25-1) who have won 17 games in a row. Berkeley will seek to avenge an 86-83 loss earlier this season to the Lynx in the championship game of the NHTI Holiday Inn New Year’s Tournament. The Knights are led by the senior guard tandem of Jose Stable (EBC HS for Public Service/Brooklyn, NY) with 22.1 points per game and Kaseem Williams (Boys & Girls/Brooklyn, NY) with 19.7 points per game.

Hostos Community College is located on the corner of the Grand Concourse and East 149^th Street in the New York City borough of the Bronx. The campus is easily accessible by mass transit by taking the 2, 4 or 5 subway to the 149^th Street-Grand Concourse station.

WOMEN LOSE TO ST. JOE'S

The New York women's basketball team lost 75-54 in a pivotal HVWAC conference game to St. Joseph's College on Saturday night at Brooklyn Technical High School.

The Lady Bears (10-9, 1-0 HVWAC) moved above .500 for the second time this season in handing the Knights (7-7, 1-1 HVWAC) their first loss in Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference play.

The Knights were paced by junior forward Milan Germany, who tallied a game-high 23 points along with nine rebounds, nine steals and six assists for a near triple-double. Senior guard Aiyesha Brown added 17 points and nine boards for a near double-double.

Despite shooting 42 percent (10-for-24) in the opening frame and maintaining a 27-19 advantage on the glass, St. Joseph's held a slim 29-25 advantage at halftime, plagued by 18 turnovers that led to 16 Berkeley points.

The Lady Bears protected the ball much better in the second half and shot a blistering 55 percent (16-for-29) to pull away from the Knights. St. Joseph's used a 9-0 run in two minutes to build a double-digit lead that would remain out of danger for the remainder of the game.

For the game, the Lady Bears finished shooting 49 percent from the field (26-of-53) and held a 53-37 advantage on the boards.

The Knights return to action on Saturday when they host NHTI at the Berkeley Invitational.

WOMEN LOSE TWO

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – People always say basketball is a game of runs, well on Friday night the Apprentice School Lady Builders proved that to be very true.

After racing out to an 18-point lead in the first half, only then to trail 48-43 with 13:18 left, the Lady Builders score the next 33 points to defeat Berkeley College 76-51 in the opening night of the 2013 Martin Luther King Classic.

Apprentice School avenged a 65-61 loss to Berkeley last Sunday in New York City. Berkeley was topped by Milan Germany with 17 points and seven rebounds while Aiyesha Brown added 14 points and seven rebounds.

In the second game of the Classic, Berkeley lost to Briarcliffe College 72-65 to fall to 7-6 on the season. The Knights were led by Brown's 18 points. She was joined in double figures by Germany with 17 and Rachel Thomas and Olivia Byfield with 10 points each.

The Knights return to action on January 26 in a pivotal Hudson Valley matchup against St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn.

WOMEN WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

The women's basketball team continues to defy all odds this season, coming back from 15 points down with a little more than seven minutes remaining in the game to defeat Apprentice School by a final score of 65-61 to improve to 7-4 on the season. The win marked the third in a row for the team after winning the NHTI New Year's Tournament.

The Knights were led by junior forward Milan Germany (Notre Dame Prep/Bronx, NY), who led all scorers with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Janay Thomas (Longwood/Queens, NY) added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Knights.

The Knights return to action next weekend when they travel to Newport News, Virginia, for the MLK Classic at Apprentice. They face USCAA power house Briarcliffe College on Friday at 4 P.M.

MILAN GERMANY NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Junior forward Milan Germany has been named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week! Germany scored 42 points, had 18 rebounds, 14 assists, and four steals as the team defeated Maine-Augusta and NHTI over the weekend. Germany was recognized as the NHTI Holiday Inn New Year’s Tournament MVP. In addition, she was named the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.

WOMEN WIN CHAMPIONSHIP

The New York women's basketball team won the New Hampshire Technical Institute Holiday Inn New Year's Tournament today 65-54 over #6 ranked NHTI. Aiyesha Brown was named to the All-Tournament Team and Milan Germany the Tournament MVP.

The team previously won the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament this season. The win improves their season record to 6-4.

BERKELEY SWEEPS THREE

Berkeley College swept a trifecta this evening with all three basketball programs winning tonight. The wins improved all three programs to one game over .500 for the season as well!

The New York women's basketball team got the night started with a stirring 61-60 win over University of Maine-Augusta in New Hampshire. The New York men followed suit, beating the University of Maine-Augusta's men's team 87-66. The New Jersey men meanwhile defeated Vaughn College at home by a score of 90-56.

The women improve to 5-4 on the season while the New York men improve to 6-5 and the New Jersey men improve to 8-7.

The win for the New Jersey program is their fourth in a row.
