NY LOSES TWO HEART BREAKERS AT MANHATTANVILLE

The Berkeley College New York men's basketball team played back-to-back, down-to-the-wire games at the AJ Buchanan Classic held by Manhattanville College this weekend and found themselves on the short end for both.

Ahead by 12 points with 2:30 remaining in the game, the Knights couldn't stop Manhattanville from closing the game on a 17-2 run to pull out a miraculous 77-74 victory.

The Valiants certainly looked to be headed to the consolation round with under three minutes remaining, when junior guard Jovan Bovell (Jamaica/Jamaica, NY) hit a fast-break layup to put the Knights up 72-60. But the home team scored six points in 29 seconds to get back into the game to make it 72-66 with 1:55 left.

Bovell was excellent for Berkeley, leading all players with 34 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field, while senior forward Jose Stable (EBC/Brooklyn, NY) added 21 points, six assists, a game-high five steals and eight rebounds.

The Knights looked to rebound in the consolation game against Gordon. Gordon led throughout the entire first half and up until 8:21 remaining in the game when a Bovell layup gave the Knights their first and only lead of the game, 64-63. The teams would tie three remaining times before the end of the game, but the Knights couldn't retake the lead.

The Knights were led by senior guard Kaseem Williams (Boy's and Girls/Brooklyn, NY) who led all scorers with 28 points on 9-15 shooting and 10-13 from the free throw line. Stable added 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Knights who return to action on Saturday versus Williamson Free Trade. The loss dropped the Knights to 3-4 on the season.
