EDWARDS AND COLLISTER NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

Sophomore defender Dominique Edwards and senior forward Meghan Collister were named to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference 2009 All-Conference team for women's soccer.

"Dominique was the backbone of our defense and became a leader as well during the course of the season and Meghan was clearly our most potent offensive player all season," commented Berkeley head coach Mark White on their selections.

"Both Dominique and Meghan not only performed well on the field, but were great ambassadors for Berkeley College athletics in general," said Brian Maher, athletic director of Berkeley College. "Their recognition is well-deserved."

NJ MEN'S BASKETBALL SPLITS FIRST TWO GAMES

The New Jersey men's basketball team lost their first game of the season to Passaic County Community College despite leading at halftime by a score of 41 to 31.

The Panthers stormed back in the second half and tied the game with approximately five minutes remaining before pulling ahead for good for a 74 to 65 win.


Berkeley was led by Eric Granger (West Side/Newark, NJ), who led all scorers with 22 points.



Berkeley bounced back in their second game of the season with a 79 to 75 win over Sussex County Community College. The Bulldogs led by as many as 14 in the second half before a late rally by Sussex closed the gap.



Berkeley was led by Donovan Black (Morristown/Morristown, NJ) with 19 points and Eric Granger with 18 points.



The Bulldogs next play at City College of New York on Sunday at 1 P.M.

NY MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS TOURNAMENT

The Berkeley College New York men's basketball team won their fourth consecutive Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference preseason tournament by defeating Culinary Institute of America 72 to 64 in the championship game on Saturday.

The Knights led by only two at halftime, 31 to 29, before a late defensive stance with the score tied at 54 forced Culinary into four turnovers resulting in a 15-5 run to give the Knights a 69-59 advantage and putting the game out of reach.

Four Berkeley players finished in double digit scoring. Damir Redzepagic (Cardinal Spellman/Bronx, NY) had a double-double, leading all scorers with 21 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Teammates Keith Myrick (Hamden/Hamden, CT) and Isaiah Didier (Sheepshead Bay/Brooklyn, NY), both instrumental during Berkeley’s late run, scored 17 points and 14 points, respectively, and Joshua Witsell (Jericho/Jericho, NY) added a double-double by scoring 13 points and grabbing a team high 13 rebounds.

Berkeley (2-0) will see its next action on November 20 against Albright College in the Albright College Tournament in Reading , PA.

MEN'S SOCCER WINS CONFERENCE GAME

The New York men's soccer team won their first game of the season in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference matchup against Sarah Lawrence College at Randall's Island on Saturday.

The Berkeley Knights converted a penalty kick by Jermaine Dacres with less than two minutes remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead.

The Knights then exploded for three more goals in the second half, the second by Dacres followed by goals by Guillermo Moscoso and Kwami Adissou. Overall the Knights managed twenty shots on goal to the Griffins eight in a commanding 4-0 shutout.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Graneros recorded 5 saves. The win improved the Knights overall record to 1-5 and their conference record to 1-1.

NEW YORK SUFFERS TOUGH LOSS TO POLY

The New York men's soccer program suffered a tough loss Saturday afternoon to the NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays.

The game was a tight one throughout with the Knights finding themselves behind 1-0 at the halftime before the Blue Jays were able to net two more in the second half to shutout the Knights in the first ever meeting between the two institutions.

Poly outshot Berkeley 24 to 13 with goalkeeper Jonathan Graneros making nine saves for the Knights while falling to 0-2 on the season.

NEW JERSEY SQUAD LOSES TO MANHATTANVILLE

Going up against an extremely strong squad, the New Jersey men's soccer team lost over the weekend to Manhattanville College by a score of 7 to 1.

Goalkeeper Kleber Gomez suffered the loss in net while Kevin Santos scored his second goal in two games to avoid the shutout for the Bulldogs.

MEN'S SOCCER NETS FIRST WIN

The Berkeley College men's soccer team from New Jersey netted their first victory in their brief history when they defeated Lehman College 4 to 1 last night.

Lehman would score first on Geovanny Arredone's goal past goaltender Kleber Gomez at the 35 minute mark to end the first half with a 1 to 0 lead.

In the second half, Federico Diaz of Berkeley scored to even the game at 1-1 followed by goals by Jeff Rosenthal, Richard Lopez, and Jordan Rocca as the Bulldogs spread the offense. Gomez stopped seven shots to record his first win.

The Bulldogs improved to 1-4 on the season while Lehman fell to 0-7.

WOMEN LOSE TO YESHIVA

The Berkeley College women's soccer team lost their first Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference contest this year to Yeshiva University by a score of 4 to 0.

Atara Kanarfogel scored three times for Yeshiva and assisted on another, while goalkeeper Odelia Rosenberg stopped all 4 shots she saw. Yeshiva took a 3 to 0 halftime lead.

The loss drops Berkeley to 0-3 on the season while Yeshiva improves to 1-4.

NAILBITER AGAINST VALLEY FORGE

The New Jersey men's soccer team lost a nailbiter to Valley Forge Military College, 3 to 2, on Tuesday, September 8.

Berkeley led 1-0 on a goal by forward Tiago Santos, their first lead of the season. Valley Forge would rally with three straight goals before Kevin Santos of Berkeley scored in the final few minutes to give Berkeley an opportunity to tie before time ran out.

The Bulldogs fall to 0-4 on the season. Their next game is on Monday, September 14, at Lehman College at 7 P.M.

BERKELEY LOSES TWO AT RAMAPO

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team lost both of their games in the President's Cup Tournament at Ramapo this past weekend.

The Bulldogs opened up against FDU - Florham on Saturday in which they lost 6 to 1. The lone goal was scored by Dennis Castillo.

The Bulldogs next had to face the powerful Ramapo Roadrunners, which had yet to give up a goal all season and the trend would continue as the Roadrunners won 8-0.

Berkeley next plays at Valley Forge Military College on September 8.
