BERKELEY WINS INVITATIONAL

The Berkeley Knights began their 2010-2011 season on a positive note with two strong victories in winning the inaugural Berkeley College Invitational men's basketball tournament.

In the opening game the Knights overpowered Pratt Institute 100-31 with five players finishing in double figures. Freshmen forward Jose Stable (EBC High School for Public Service/Brooklyn, NY) led all scorers with 16 points with freshmen center Elijah Craig (Seward Park/Brooklyn, NY) posting a double-double with 14 points, a team-high 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots.

In the championship game against Vaughn College (1-1), Berkeley (2-0) broke open a close game by going on a 17-5 run to close out the first half and led 49-31 at halftime. Freshman guard Jovan Bovell (Jamaica/Jamaica, NY) provided the spark off the bench with eight points and two steals. Bovell and Stable finished with 20 points each while sophomore guard Kaseem Williams (Boys & Girls/Brooklyn, NY) added 16 points. The final score for the game was Berkeley 93 and Vaughn College 72.

Two Knights earned all-tournament honors: Stable was named Most Outstanding Player and junior guard Isaiah Didier (Sheepshead Bay/Brooklyn, NY) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Berkeley's next games will be this upcoming weekend at the Borough of Manhattan Community College Tournament. Saturday, November 13, the Knights will face junior college powerhouse Bergen Community College at 12:30PM and on Sunday, November 14, will face host BMCC at 2:30PM. All games will be played at Borough of Manhattan Community College.
