Berkeley College's New York men's and women's basketball teams advanced to the championship game of the NHTI Delta Dental New Year's Tournament with victories over the University of Maine-Augusta.
The men won 91-59 behind sophomore Jose Stable (EBC High School/Brooklyn, NY), who scored a team-high 21 points with fellow sophomore Mario Guzman ( West Oaks Acacedmy/New York, NY) and junior Kaseem Williams (Boys & Girls/Brooklyn) each adding 13 points. Stable controlled the boards with 13 rebounds.
The Knights (9-5) shot only 38% in the first half and led only by five 37-32 at halftime, but opened the second half on a 13-2 run to expand the lead to 16 at 50-34. UMA would get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way as the Knights shot 53% in the second half to cruise to the victory.
The women won 61-54 despite missing starting junior point guard Aiyesha Brown (John Adams/Jamaica, NY) to improve their record to 8-5.
The men and women will play host NHTI in the championship games at 12:30 P.M. and 4 P.M., respectively.
