The New Jersey men's soccer team continues to establish records for the program winning their eighth game of the season while inching above the .500 mark for the first time all season with a 9-0 win over Vaughn College. The eight wins are the most in program history for a single season.
The Knights improved to 8-7 on the season with three games remaining on the season. Of their seven losses five have come by one goal of which three were in overtime.
The Knights dominated early and often in the first half with goals by sophomore midfielders Eucario Solano (Absegami/Galloway, NJ) and Daniel Vieceli (Kearny/Kearny, NJ) in the 12th minute to take a quick 2-0 lead. These were followed by goals in the 23rd, 26th, and 27th minutes by sophomore midfielder Ramon Arce (Bernards/Bernardsville, NJ), sophomore defender Luis Godinez (PCTI/Paterson, NJ), and senior midfielder Johnny Campos (Kearny/Kearny, NJ).
The second half mirrored the first with goals in the 51st, 54th, 57th and 89th minutes with the first two by Vieceli to earn a hat trick, a second by Arce, and the final by freshman forward Kevin Ortiz (Kearny/Kearny, NJ).
Freshman forward Shawn Duda (Secaucus/Secaucus, NJ), junior midfielder Jason Rodrigues (Kearny/Kearny, NJ), Arce, and Campos earned assists. Keepers Thomas Frangieh (Newton/Newton, NJ), David Gonzalez (Rutherford/Rutherford, NJ), and Anthony Reinoso (Leonia/Edgewater, NJ) combined for a clean sheet in goal.
The Knights return to action this Sunday with their final home game of the season against Briarcliffe College at 2 P.M. at NJIT.
