The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team has had a season of streaks this season and are now on a winning streak again having won their last two matches.
The team improved to 5-6 on the season with the most lopsided win in their brief history defeating Sarah Lawrence College 13-2 Wednesday night. Freshman forward Kevin Ortiz (Kearny/Kearny, NJ) got the team on the scoreboard early with an unassisted goal at the 13:47 mark, his first of two goals on the evening. Less than two minutes later sophomore forward Ramon Arce (Bernads/Bernardsville, NJ) scored on an assist from Ortiz to take a 2-0 lead. Freshman forward Keston Miguel (Eastside/Paterson, NJ) would score 15 seconds later on an assist from sophomore midfielder Eucario Solano (Absegami/Galloway, NJ) to extend the lead to 3-0.
Six minutes later freshman defender Thomas Cruz (Kearny/Kearny, NJ) would score the first of his three goals on the evening on an assist from senior midfielder Johnny Campos (Kearny/Kearny, NJ). Sarah Lawrence would respond less than a minute later to make the score 4-1 before Berkeley would respond with goals by freshman defender Thiago Cruz (Kearny/Kearny, NJ), freshman forward Shawn Duda (Secaucus/Secaucus, NJ), and two more goals by Thomas Cruz to make it 8-1 before Sarah Lawrence would score again to make it 8-2 at halftime.
The Knights would score five more times in the second half on goals by Ortiz, Miguel, sophomore defender Luis Godinez (PCTI/Paterson, NJ), Thiago Cruz, and Solano.
The team returns to action this Sunday for their third home game of the season at NJIT versus Medgar Evers College at 2 P.M.
