Newark, NJ - The New Jersey men's soccer team defeated York College 6-1 for their third straight win to improve to 3-3 on the season. The game was the first home game in the history of the program and was conducted at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
The teams entered the half at 0-0 before the Knights exploded three minutes into the second half with goals by freshman forward Kevin Ortiz (Kearny/Kearny, NJ) on an assist by sophomore midfielder (Kearny/Kearny, NJ) at the 48:30 mark and then again 17 seconds later on a goal by junior defender Paul Logan (Kearny/Kearny, NJ) on an assist from sophomore midfielder Eucario Solano (Absegami/Galloway, NJ). Ortiz would strike again 20 minutes later unassisted off a deflection. Freshman forward Shawn Duda (Secaucus/Secaucus, NJ) scored at the 77th minute on an assist from sophomore forward Ramon Arce (Bernards/Bernardsville, NJ) to expand the lead to 4-0 and then freshman defender Eric Lourenco scored on to make it 5-0 before York would get on the scoreboard at the 86th minute.
The Knights would retaliate 40 seconds later on Shawn Duda's second goal of the game on an assist by freshman defender Thomas Cruz (Kearny/Kearny, NJ).
Sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Frangieh (Newton/Newton, NJ) had a clean sheet until being substituted out at the 80th minute.
The Knights return to action against Cairn University at 2 P.M. at Cairn.
