The New Jersey men’s basketball team lost to Rowan University on Thursday evening, falling to the Profs by a score of 85-68 in non-conference action in Glassboro, NJ.
Rowan University raced out to an early 19-4 advantage just 8:44
into the game, but the Knights showed fight and put together 16-6 run to keep
things close, as Berkeley pulled to within five points – 25-20 – with 7:12
remaining in the opening session. The Profs would finalize the half with a
22-13 run to take a 47-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, Berkeley College stayed within 10 points
in the first five minutes from action, but Rowan University gradually built
their lead from there, going up by as many as many as 21 points en route to a
17-point win.
Despite the loss for Berkeley,
Vince Richmond put forth a strong effort for the Knights, recording a
double-double with 20 points on 10-of-18 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds.
Hassan Abdullah added 12 points and three steals on the evening, and Jermaine Jackson
contributed nine points off of the bench.
Rowan
University had five
different players score in double figures in the victory, including Tim
McDaniels who netted 20 points while connecting on six of his 11 shots from the
floor and eight of nine attempts from the charity stripe. Rich McNamara posted
a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Matt Whitworth scored 13
points while collecting eight boards.
The biggest difference in the game for the clubs was the
conversion rate, as the Profs converted on 50.9 percent of their attempts from
the floor (29-57), while Berkeley
hit on just 34.9 percent of their shots (23-67). The teams were deadlocked at
42 apiece in the rebounding department, and were nearly identical in the
turnover category, with the Profs committing 16 miscues compared to the Knights’
15.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday afternoon as Berkeley will take on
Central Penn at New Jersey Institute of Technology, with game-time scheduled
for 3:00pm.
