runners— one living
in Queens—have
been named to
the United States Collegiate

women’s cross country.
Athletes Lacey Garnett
and Sarah Celin
attend Berkeley College
in Midtown Manhattan.
“May I be the first to congratulate these student-athletes on their
accolades,” said Andy DeStephano, Berkeley College director of athletics. “Their
individual accomplishments have contributed to the overall success of our
Women’s Cross Country team at Berkeley College.”
The commitment of these athletes to their studies consistently places them
among the top student-athletes at Berkeley College.
Lacey Garnett is a senior from Corona in
Queens. Garnett has been a member of the Cross Country team since its
inaugural season in 2010.
She has shown constant improvement throughout the years and her commitment to
training prepared her for off-season participation in several local road races
and half marathons, the school said in a statement.
Sarah Celin is a junior from Manhattan and has been a member of the Cross
Country team for three seasons, placing as one of the top 10 female runners at
the Hudson Valley Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship three years in a
row.
To qualify for All-Academic status, a student must be an upperclassman with a
cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher while competing for his or her
institution in a competitive sport.
