NEW YORK, NY – The Berkeley College New York men’s and women’s basketball teams received at-large bids to the 2012 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s and Women’s Basketball National Championships to be held March 6-10 at the campus of Penn State Fayette in Uniontown, PA.

This marks the second consecutive year that the men’s team has been selected to participate and the first year for the women’s team, which is only in their second season of existence as a varsity program.

The men’s team is coming off their most successful regular season in their rich history, finishing the season with a 17-8 record and winning the Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference regular and postseason championships for the second consecutive year.

The women’s team improved dramatically from their inaugural 2-18 season last year to improve to 14-11 on the season while winning the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament at Medgar Evers College and the Delta Dental New Hampshire Technical Institute Tournament during the season.
“It’s an honor to be selected by your peers to participate in a national tournament and to have the opportunity to represent your institution,” said Brian Maher, athletic director for Berkeley College. “The students on both teams have worked hard the entire season to achieve their success and it is well deserved.”

The men’s team will square off against ninth-seeded University of Maine-Machias on March 7 at 5:30 P.M. The women’s team will square off against fifth-seeded Southern Virginia University on March 7 at 9:30 P.M.
