Berkeley NY Defeats Vermont Tech
Randolph Center, VT – The NY Berkeley men’s basketball earned their fourth consecutive victory with a 62-52 win over Vermont Tech in a USCAA-D2 matchup. Trailing 27-25 at halftime, Berkeley (5-1) went on a 16-1 run to start the second half and held Vermont Tech (3-6) scoreless for the first six minutes. Senior guard Jovan Bovell (Jamaica, NY/Jamaica) scored six points during the run and freshman reserve center Ahmed Dickerson (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) put back layup capping the run to give the Knights their largest lead of the game at 41-28. But Berkeley could not put away a pesky Vermont Tech team who slowly chipped away and closed within a field goal at 53-51 with 3:41to play. But senior guard Mario Guzman (New York, NY/West Oaks Academy) hit a huge trifecta to increase the margin to five 56-51. Another field goal by Bovell and four free throws by junior forward Shawn Collins (Brooklyn, NY/Newton) would ice the game for Berkeley.
Bovell and Guzman led Berkeley with 11 points apiece. Sophomore guard Keenan Langston (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Academy) added nine points and pulled down seven rebounds. Senior center Elijah Craig (Brooklyn, NY/Seward Park) recorded a team-high eight rebounds and sophomore guard Dandre Moore (Brooklyn, NY/Mount Zion Academy) played a strong game with seven points and six rebounds.
Berkeley maintained a 44-30 edge on the boards and held their opponent under 35% shooting for the fourth straight game.
The Knights conclude their two-game swing through the state of Vermont with a 3:00 tipoff against the College of St. Joseph (7-6) in Rutland, VT.
